Since you are new and you're playing on laptop you can count Attila out.
It's very graphically demanding and has very hard campaign for beginners.So it comes down to medievals. I would recommend Medieval 2 kingdoms.Because it fixes some of the bugs and problems of M2 and introduces a lot of more focused smaller campaigns with few unique features. And it's the base for Stainless steel mod which brings improvements of kingdoms campaigns to bigger map of Europe, so basically you get bigger, better Medieval 2. The americas campaign is the best total war campaign I ever played.

The native factions are really fun and feel unique. I conquered the whole map with the aztecs and the northern tribes (besides havana obviously) and the whole map with the spanish. Playing as the meso american factions thought me how to counter cavalry and heavy infantry properly. I also invented my own archer/infantry formations.
Rushing enemy natives down with jaguars and eagle warriors was great too. The jungle maps and cities are awesome too by the way.Really recommend this campaign.
